NEW DELHI : The US is set to recognize the life of the civil rights icon
Martin Luther King Jr. on Monday, on the parallel of the swearingin form of President- elect Donald Trump. King is the onlynon-president with a civil vacation named in his honor. His work to end isolation and racism through pacifism earned him the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964. MLK Day is honored as a National Day of Service, encouraging Americans to bestow and engage in community- structure sweats. This aspect of the vacation emphasizes Dr. King’s belief in collaborative action and the power of individualities to produce meaningful change. By sharing in service systems, people can recognize his heritage while addressing present- day social issues. Who was Martin Luther King Jr.? The Baptist minister first gained public attention during the 1955 Montgomery machine boycott in Alabama. He went on to come a leading figure in the Civil Rights movement,co-founding the Southern Christian Leadership Conference in 1957 and playing a crucial part in organizing the 1963 March on Washington. King is famed for his commitment to civil defiance and peaceful resistance in the fight against racism and isolation. In 1963, he delivered his iconic" I Have a Dream" speech on the National Mall during the March on Washington,
cementing his place as one of history’s most influential voices for equivalency and justice.
What's all planned?
As Atlanta prepared to commemorate the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday, Dr. Bernice King, CEO of the King Center, made a visit to the GPB Talk Studio. The King Center arranged multiple events this month to honor what would have been the civil rights leader’s 96th birthday. On January 18, the King Center held its MLK Jr.. Beloved Community Awards, and on January 20, the vacation fests will begin with the Beloved Community Commemorative Service at Ebenezer Baptist Church. The service will feature Dr. Bernice King, Senator Raphael Warnock, the Rev. William Barber, and other notable speakers.
On Sunday evening, worshippers from colorful appellations gathered at Peace United Church of Christ in Duluth. Minneapolis will also celebrate the 35th periodic Martin Luther King Jr. vacation breakfast this time.
